To make it clear, the CSV Frisange is not against the renovation of the Hellange Water Tower. Of course, within our section there is not only one opinion. For some it is a “piece of concrete”, for others the water tower is a landmark or a symbol of the village of Hellange. Thus, in the CSV it is the same as with the people. When we asked the residents for their opinion in 2017, there was also no clear tendency to be seen.
That’s why our representatives also abstained in 2020 in the municipal council in the vote on the budget for the renovation of the water tower. And they also brought a referendum into play. The people should have been allowed to say whether it would be desirable to preserve the water tower. Because in the end, tax money is being spent here. Which comes from all of us. And because we do not all see the same benefit in this classification and renovation, the population should be involved.
In advance, a controversial discussion about the pros and cons could have taken place. In the case of the Hellange Water Tower, this would have been, for example, the architectural value of the tower versus the cost of its renovation. In 2020, these were budgeted at 700,000€. Three years later, still nothing further has happened, so one must assume that the renovation will become much more expensive and will likely exceed 1 million.
