Shortly before the municipal elections, the college of aldermen presented its planned project on the site of the old rectory in Aspelt to the municipal council. For around 14 million €, a daycare center for up to 68 children, a senior club for around 25 people and 3 apartments that fall under the criteria of affordable housing are to be built here. A very interesting project, but one that in our view is being realized in the wrong place. This project creates a considerable amount of traffic in the village center of Aspelt, at a place where one actually wanted to reduce traffic and where parking possibilities are limited. Therefore, the staff of daycare center and senior club would not be allowed to park on site, but would have to look for a place somewhere else in Aspelt.
As CSV, we would have welcomed it if the daycare center had been realized in Frisange near the school (e.g. integrated in the new building where the scout home and a community hall are coming, or in the project of the new school and Maison Relais). This would have also arranged better for parents who have several children. Unfortunately, our opinion was not asked in advance by the current Är Equipe-DP majority, the same applies to the advisory municipal commissions, which were also not asked for advice.
This is also after the new school/Maison Relais the second costly project that is pushed through shortly before the elections. According to the current calculations that the municipal council has presented to us, our municipality assumes that it will have a debt of around 80 million € by 2028. In the current time with an uncertain interest rate development, this is in our eyes not a healthy and responsible financial policy.
For these reasons we as CSV did not support this project, even though we are basically in favor of a daycare center, a senior club or affordable housing.
