Our Mayor and his concerning understanding of Democracy

“… those who have supported the budget, can work on it, and those who have not supported it, should not be discussing it here either …” said the mayor in his laconic statement at the municipal council meeting on January 6, 2021, on a motion by the LSAP to establish a working group for the extension of the school and Maison Relais, in which, among others, representatives from all factions of the municipal council should be present.

This political conviction, as the mayor also called it, is scandalous and dubious at the same time, as it shows how little he apparently thinks of democracy, inclusion and the freedom of opinion. Only those who agree with his opinion are allowed to have a say. It is quite sarcastic that at the beginning of the meeting he expressed his congratulations on a good cooperation in the municipal council.

We regret that the DP elder supports this position, a party that proudly bears the word “Democratic” in its name and has in its basic program, among other things: “Politics must not exclude, it must include. Different opinions, ideas and life projects deserve respect and protection by society.”.

This position does not correspond at all to the understanding of democracy and cooperation of the CSV representatives in the municipal council. We were and are still willing to participate constructively in the dialogue on the projects, to contribute our ideas and will certainly not be silent or be muzzled.
